Super Steel^ is a major metalworking company on the north side of Milwaukee, and has been responsible for fabricating many parts for Electro-Motive (EMD) locomotives in the past. When I worked along WIS-100 in Greenfield, I regularly saw locomotive long hoods traveling down the road, heading out of town from Super Steel to EMD in LaGrange, IL. More recently, Super Steel has been involved in other railroad-related projects as well, including final assembly work on bilevel commuter cars for (Chicago) Metra (see "Metra in Milwaukee") and Virginia Railway Express. These cars come from Nippon Sharyo in Japan, wrapped up in a blue tarp, kind of like a life-size Athearn kit! Click here to start viewing the photos, or select a thumbnail below.
