Ice Trouble

Due to a combination of a wet thaw a few days earlier, and a sudden deep-freeze, most railroads in the upper Midwest suffered a fairly high number of ice-related derailments and embargoes; Union Pacific was no exception.  Maggio had been called in to get GP38-2 396 back on track, and Matt and I got pictures of the event.  Matt had wanted to "chase" the Marsh Job; however, the engine traveled a few hundred feet in either direction before shutting down!

UPY EMD SW1500 1040

Since April 2008, UPY EMD SW1500 1040 has been the power of choice for the Marsh Job.  It is interesting to see an end-cab switcher in charge of a local job, and the little engine has proven its worth, handling as many as 80 cars!  The little switcher is popular with railfans, as well.
